CASA Offices, Canberra

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), a vital government body ensuring aviation safety in Australia, recently undertook a significant office relocation to Marcus Clarke St in the heart of Canberra’s CBD. This move aimed not only to provide a modern workspace but also to create an environment that pays homage to Australia’s aviation history.

The focal point of the new office is an impressive atrium that spans all three levels of the office, adding to the aesthetic appeal of the space but also promoting an open and collaborative atmosphere. The atrium seamlessly connects various workspaces, offering panoramic views of Canberra’s Black Mountain and its picturesque surroundings.

The open areas of each reception space have been thoughtfully designed, incorporating free working spaces that seamlessly flow into shared kitchens. The use of slatted timber ceilings adds a touch of sophistication and delineates different sections of the office. Linear runs of Downhill Dan 30 and Flat Freddie 30 illuminate the spaces, ensuring a pleasant, glare-free environment for employees and visitors alike.

A noteworthy feature of the fit-out is the careful integration of Australia’s aviation history into the contemporary office space. This connection to the past is brought to life through a series of illuminated boxes strategically placed throughout the office. Originally part of CASA’s journey in their previous office in Phillip, these boxes have been upgraded from fluorescent tubes to Covert Charlie 20 from the XD Range. This seamless blend of history and modernity serves as a unique centrepiece for the entire fit-out.

By seamlessly blending modern aesthetics with elements of Australia’s rich aviation history, CASA has created a workspace that is not only visually stunning but also functional and reflective of its mission.
